Driving in overdrive on freeway questions

I have heard that if you drive on overdrive on the freeway it saves gas and it wont wear the tranny down. I have recently put a new rebuilt tranny in and i was wondering if it will affect it in any way?

yeah anything above 50-60 mph is probably best for overdrive, unless of course your on a freeway in Miami or NYC then I'll see you somewhere around 2nd or 3rd gear with 5k+ rmp just staying with the flow of traffic

On a serious note the best way to improve gas milage is to have more gears! I didn't look to see what car you had in your sig or if that was the car was about but I'll quote this little example to drive the point

2004 pontiac LS1 EPA
A4 = 21 mpg M6 = 29 mpg

Hi there, Dubai guy was asleep, just woke up

I'm not from the US nor am I a local, I'm an Asian (Indian) and been living here for the past 8 years.

Dubai is a good shopping destination, and it might be worth to come down and try out some of the tourist activities like the desert safari, water park, and some of the luxury Arabian themed hotels for a change. As for Abu Dhabi, i really don't see why you would want to holiday there (unless it's for work purposes or you're military, or something of that sort). I've have'nt been there much myself living here for 8 years (except 2 or 3 times for work purposes). Theres nothing much there other than concrete and desert.

Furthermore, Dubai is a wannabe city and everything is hype, hence no it does not make manhattan look small, in fact Dubai looks up to Manhattan or LA, these cities have much more substance and soul than here. Maybe manhattan looking small from the point of view of concrete architecture

so you mean to say it's good to drive on some of the lower gears in slow traffic?

My car starts and ends any journey on overdrive. In fact I doubt i've ever used any of the lower gears since i've onwed the car (3 yrs). Correct me if I'm not doing something right.
thanx

Yes when I said "make manhattan look small" I meant more of the size of the buldings than the people / culture. I've heard that Dubai's concrete architecture is unbeliveable

I doubt it would have much affect. The main issue is to use the extra OD gear at higher speed, as it can really make a differnce.... I was just looking to buy a GTO and after some research I found the 4 speed is EPA 21 mpg while the 6 speed is EPA 29 mpg quotes for highway driving

They've just announced a building that constantly changes shape by each floor rotating 360 degrees. Dubai's motto: build it and they will come.

Seems to be working.

feel free to give me a shout if you come down here.

The M6 has two O/D gears. But the clue seem to be the "2200 shift kit" in his signature... sure points to the A4.
