Driver side turn signal WILL NOT work!!

Ok, I'm starting to get frustrated now. My left signal just will ot work. When you turn it on the lights just come on and stay lit. At night when the headlights are on the turn signal arrow in the insrtument cluster stays lit and the front signal bulb is very dim. I've replaced all the bulbs on the driver side and the turn signal flasher. Everything on the passenger side works fine. What else could be wrong?!?!

Could be a bulb, socket or wire.

Do the front and rear bulbs both come on? I have a feeling there is a bulb out that you are missing. If all the bulbs are connected and working the flasher will flash. If a bulb is missing, the load will not be enough to make the flasher flash.

The blinker acts as a DRL it has 2 filaments. 1 is probably out.

I've got clear corners and I'm running amber bulbs in them. Does anyone know the correct bulb number I need?

Re: Driver side turn signal WILL NOT work!!

I had a problem with a turn signal on a Ford Courier once. The tail light was feeding back through the indecator light kinda like you discribed. Ended up being a bad ground at the tail light. Can't say that is your problem but you might check it out. Might get lucky.

Yeah, I got it. It ended up being there was some rust in the socket causeing it not to get good connection. I cleaned it out and it works again. It's still acting up a bit so I'm gonna eventually replace the turn siginal/ parking light harness on that side.

Re: Driver side turn signal WILL NOT work!!

Hello,
After fighting with a similar problem on my 97 but on the passenger side, I found a TSB #(73-82-12)that mentioned the DRL module. Here is what it says;

Lights - Erratic Headlamps or Turn Signal Operation

File In Section: 8 - Chassis/Body Electrical

Bulletin No.: 73-82-12

Date: October, 1997

Subject:
Erratic Operation of Headlamp Doors, Headlamps, or Turn Signals
(Replace DRL Module, Change Mounting)

Models:
1997-98 Chevrolet Camaro
1997-98 Pontiac Firebird

Important : The following information is offered as a diagnostic aid, as this condition is very rare, and may be difficult to correct using normal diagnostic methods.

Condition

Some owners may comment on erratic operation of the headlamp doors (Pontiac Only), headlamps, daytime running lamps, or turn signals. The most common conditions are the headlamp doors opening by themselves, or the lights staying on all the time.

Important : A separate condition on Pontiac models is that the lights come on, but the headlamp's doors do not open. This can usually be corrected by properly tightening the battery cables.

Cause

In high heat and humidity situations, water can condense on the air conditioning duct and travel into and accumulate in the Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) module.

Correction

Replace the DRL module, P/N 10407669. Mount the new module with the electrical connectors facing down. The module is located on the A/C ductwork behind the radio and HVAC controls (see the 1997 Service Manual, Figure 7, Page 8C-11).

I had another module from a wrecked car that I have installed and so far it has been working ok. But I went through the whole circuit from the switch to the socket and this was my last step. Hope this helps.

Re: Driver side turn signal WILL NOT work!!

Cool, sounds like I was on the right track with the bad ground idea. The bulb is back feeding through the turn light side for the ground. Always nice to hear what comes out of a problem for future ref. I have a low mile 02 that i intend to keep for a very long time.
