Downfalls of Camaros?
Just reading in another thread, and he mentioned the downers of camaros ( campared to imports). Please do not turn this into a 6 page import versus domestic battle, im just curious on the downers on the car that i love so much. The only issues ive had so far is a little hard to work on, but im comparing it to none preformance vechles that i had in the past ( that im way to ashamed to admit lol ie 89 cliTuarus. Is there less hassle with fixing say a 97 integra overall? And as for the gas issue, if a honda civic was running times to a bolt on camaro, how would his mileage compare then? And how much money would you figure someone would have to sink into a car for it to compare? For as much as camaros cost, for what you get, its got to be hands down the BEST bang for the buck out of any car in the world, am i wrong?

I'd have to agree with ya there. I don't see too many imports running great et's. Don't get me wrong, the're out there, but it taks A LOT MORE to get there. And once your there the car is running on the edge. I get a sense that I can run my LT-1 ragged and it will not fail me because there's soo much left in it, I have only begun to open up the car to its full potential and I'm nearly im the 12's. And the LS-x cars are running with me bone stock.
The downfall is the Camaro hasn't become a 'pop icon' like the imports have.

Okay, I'm an old buzzard. I'm 47. When I was a kid, you kinda had to mod whatever you had. That would explain why I put so much effort into my first car: '69 Mustang with a straight 6 and 3 on the floor! Not worth modding, but it's what I had.
I think that's where a lot of ricers are. Plus, a lot of folks just don't do the research. When I first bought my car, there was a guy who told me his wife wanted a car like mine, but they couldn't afford it. When I told him how much I paid, he was all like, "You mean to tell me that car didn't cost any more than a pick up truck?????"
Not to mention that hardly anybody bothers to find out that there are LS1s out there getting 30mpg on the highway! And others who get rid of them when they have a kid. I guess it's too much effort to turn their head to where they can see that the back seat is PERFECT for dropping a baby seat into.

i'd say the downfall of camaros is the fact that they give you a lead foot and obsiticals such as poles, trees, curbs, medains, ect. ect. happen to run into your way and total you car

personally i think in that market your gona spend about the same for hp mean you get 320 out of an ls1 for apx what 27-30 brand new at the time your gona spend the same amout to buy and mod a import , in the long run a v8 will last longer at the same hp becuase there is less strain on the internals, plus rwd cars handle high hp alot beter and thats why most car manufactures are turning back to rwd in there high hp cars

Cons to F-Bodys: Insurance is higher most of the time, gas mileage isn't AS good, but it's decent, Optispark, window motors, and that blind spots behind the driver.
If a Civic is running 13.5 or faster, it more then likely has a turbo or nitrous. With a turbo, you can just turn down the boost for street driving and still retain good gas mileage. That, and most imports are manual, so that adds to the gas mileage. But, it also costs more to make power equivalent to what V8's are running, unless the car is turbo from the factory.
