Angry Door windows getting scratched from inside door

What causes the door window glass to get scratched when I roll up/down my windows? Is there something that commonly breaks off inside and starts scratching the hell out of it? It just started doing it so I want to fix it before the glass is completely trashed.

Re: Door windows getting scratched from inside door

The 4th Gen FAQ states;
"Q: What is causing the scratches on my door window?

A: The window alignment needs to be adjusted from inside the door (taking the inside door panel off). There is a Technical Service Bulletin (#651023) which addresses this problem on 1993 - 1995 cars."

Re: Door windows getting scratched from inside door

There are at least two metal "L" brackets adjusters that control the angle that the window is set to when fully up. These adjusters are fabric covered and have two primary problems. One is that the fabric wares which allows the window to contact the metal part of the bracket and the other is that the fabric get sand and/or particles imbedded in it that scratches the glass.
When replacing them make sure you keep them square to the window surface when tightening them.

The new stabilizer brackets are better than the original ones. More fuzzy. You can check out how to adjust them here.

Re: Door windows getting scratched from inside door

While the subject is this I need these..
Do they come one per GM p/n? Or 2, enough for one door? [I suspect one, but need to know..]
Thanks!

had the same problem, one of the brackets had the fuzzy end broken off so it was just two sharp edges grinding on the glass. Just get new ones, not very expensive. There are 2 per door, and come separate.

Not to hijack your thread bozobuttz, but you might want to take a quick look at the post I made a little while ago. My window had been jerking up/down quite a bit the last couple of days and when I got the door apart, I found that one of the rollers had separated from the bracket.

I was hoping some of the more knowledgeable window people in here could give me an opinion. I really don't want to have to buy the whole regulator to fix this.
