Donut Killed car?!?
Donut Killed car?!?
Out with a few friend this weekend, and I was just showing off a little, and I pulled a great looking burnout then shifted into 2nd and whipped the car around. I depressed the clutchwhile the engine was still around 3500 rpm, and when my car came to a stop the engine died and wouldn't start back up for 45-60 seconds! I was afraid I had broke something in the almighty LS1! Does anyone know why it would do this? BTW: no problems with the car after I got it started back up that night.
Thanks,
Richy

Re: Donut Killed car?!?
im not entirely sure if this will happen on a fuel injected car, but it sounds like you just loaded up the cylinders a little when you got on the clutch so fast....the delay before start-up makes me think that too...
if it runs fine now, i wouldnt worry too much....

Re: Donut Killed car?!?
I recently read an article on the Gto thats preped for drifting. According to Millen, they had to do some serious work on the oiling system so the engine did not starve during high G manuvers. Apparently this is a known weakness of the LS1. I would be real careful about throwing it around like that for prolonged periods.

No, it didn't try to turn over. And I don't plan on pulling that kinda stuff any more, the cops call that Wreckless Driving (got out of it, good to know people)
Re: Donut Killed car?!?
Most newer cars are designed to kill the motor if you go into a 180* (or greater) turn. This is to prevent the car from continuing to run in an accident. I spun around on some ice one time and the car died on me. I am about 90% sure that it's supposed to die like that.

Re: Donut Killed car?!?
yeah, they blew up dozens of the first LS-1 prototype engines during slalom and skidpad activity, take it easy on the car. Also watch out during doughnuts, that power steering pump can overheat also, and that's not a cheap fix.

I only do donuts in the rain, preserves tires and easier to control, for me anyways. And yes, I'm pretty sure the car is supposed to die if you flip it around too fast, it's to prevent you from wrecking something and then keeping your car on.

blame the people who get a powerful car and use it to weave through traffic at 20+ mph over the speed limit with zero regard for the other people on the road...
a donut in an empty parking lot is not reckless...its harmless fun. provided theres nobody around who are you going to hurt???

what was that phrase??? "let he who has not sinned cast the first stone" or something like that???
..and what do you see in the paper more often?? "Excessive Speed Takes Life Of 3 Motorists" or "Donut Gone Horribly Wrong: Kills 3"???
