Do I have to run 93 octane all the time?
Do I have to run 93 octane all the time?
Well in NY , Long Island to be exact. I am seeing now between 4.09 - 4.19 for premium (93 octane)
Do I HAVE to run premium. I know on my old Camaro I put 87 in and it ran like absolute garbage and messed everything up.
Can I run 89? or 91? and be fine?

It was probably running like crap because the car was knocking due to the lower grade gas and pulling timing as a result. Run the gas as stated by the owners manual, which is premium. Your only paying a few bucks more per fillup.
Assuming you are talking about the car in your sig, the 1996 owners manual (shbox.com) calls for 91 octane. Here in Texas, I could only get 87, 89 and 93, back when my Camaro was my daily driver, so I would put in a tank of 93, then burn it down to half a tank and fill it back up with 89. I figured it averaged out to 91 that way... I have no idea if thats the way it really works, but I never had any problems doing that.
Has anyone tried the lower octane gas with a bottle of that octane boost stuff? I have no idea if that stuff works.

I've learned the octane boosters do more bad than good. And at whatever price you pay it will even out to the price of the higher octane fuel. Correct me if im wrong but I was told if you have 89 octane and put a bottle of octane booster in you will see 89.4-5 octane, Very minimal gain, Un-noticeable gain.
I think it has been pretty well established that the octane boosters don't do any good. I would go through and make sure everything is squared away on your car that would affect gas mileage (don't forget the tire pressure) and just bite it. I've always used at least midgrade because I'm used to having higher mileage vehicles and I don't like to take my chances when I'm talking 160k+ miles. it only makes at the most 1.50 difference in the camaro (and usually less than that because I almost never run it down that low anymore) and at the most 2 bucks on the truck. not a big difference as you can see. I wouldn't take the chance of putting your engine through that for a couple bucks per fill up.
Just put 91 (or 93 whatever you got) its only a few more dollers for a full tank, plus if you can afford to drive a v8 camaro around, I think you can afford to pay $5 more on the fill up. (I never did exact math)
I know my 2002 Z28 calls for 91 octane so if you can get it you can save a couple bucks in fuel costs at each tank full if you can get it instead of 93 octane
Or if you're really worried about gas costs sell the camaro and get a motorbike or a VW tdi or something like that
