do hurst shifters wear out?

my shifter has been difficult to get into third and fifth gears lately. It is a hurst short throw and sometimes going into third and fifth it feels like it is all the way in and when i let out on the clutch it grinds horribly. then i put the clutch back in and it then slides all the way into gear and acts normally after that. The shifter has been in the car for probably 70,000 miles. Is this the shifter that is wearing out or could it be the syncros in the tranny?

Thanks
Rhett

Could it be the clutch? It probably has 70 or 80,0000 miles on it and is supposed to be a centerforce.

I am pretty sure that it isyour sychros starting to go. Does it do it on downshifts?

Yes, but not all the time. if i put any sideways pressure as I'm shifting from 4th to 5th or from 6th to 5th there is a small grind but nothing real bad. Just enough fo me to tell its grinding. i've noticed lately there seems to be more slop in the shifter than normal. This is why I was wondering if they can wear out.

Also, are Hurst shifters adjustable? I took the boot off and didn't see anything but i suppose the adjusters could be on the bottom of the shifter. I didn't want to go to all the trouble to look if there aren't any.
