Difference between the factory hurst shifter and regular shifter?

On some 6 speed LS1 fbodies some came from the factory with a Hurst shifter and some did not..Are both the shifters the same in length? What makes the Hurst shifter better than the regular shifter?

True for both LT1's and LS1's. Supposed to be slightly high pivot point(shorter throw) and slightly stiffer bushings. However, there are far, far better after market shifters. My SS came with the Hurst and I'm not impressed!

I optioned my 97ss with a factory Hurst unit. Missed many 2-->3 shifts. Lots of deflection. I wasted my money with that option. I have a Pro_5.

The after market Hurst billet shifter is an excellent shifter. You'll have to be very clumsy and/or work very, very hard to make those 2 -> 5 shifts!! It is not the same as the factory Hurst option, which hasn't had good reviews. Both the Hurst billet and the B&M shifter are rated highly. I've never tried the B&M but have been very happy with the Hurst.

the factory hurst has a billet steel base and higher ratio pivot. so its sturdier and has shorter throws.

the shift stick is the same between stock and the hurst option. and that's 90% of the problem with the shifters.

just putting a short stick on a stock shifter improves the feel of the shifter 10x.
and the short stick on the hurst shifter is an even better upgrade.

i measured the distance from 1-2 with my short stick equipped hurst. if i remember correctly it is 3.5" of travel.

stock shifter with stock stick is something like 8" of travel.

i can shift with out picking my elbow up off the console....jsut using my wrist.

I like my Hurst + LSS better than my Pro 5.0. Could be in the short stick though.

stock t56 shifter was a joke (on my '97 z28)

and considering the cost...they are fantastic.

i paid $50 shipped for my hurst shifter, and $55 new for my LSS.

you can get $25 sticks off ebay...so for less than 1/2 the cost you have a damn nice shifter.

the one Pro 5.0 that i drove i didn't like. i had trouble finding gears. and that was going from my car with the hurst/lss to the Pro.

to each his own.

Just to clarify I'm talking about the Hurst shifter you get with the SS package not the aftermarket hurst shifter, which many have pointed out is much better.

Interesting, you are the only person I have ever heard find fault with the Pro-5. Maybe just a difference in feel?

the hurst shifter i have was out of an SS....so yeah..the factory version...not after market.

as for my issues with the Pro5.0.....3 yrs driving the hurst/lss...then a 10 min test drive with the pro...not impressed.

i'm sure it was just a matter of feel, i think you can change the tension on the pro. if so...it was set way too high.
