Re: Did the window motor thermal bypass...OMG do they work better.

i was actually going to replace both motors with siemens from autozone which is what ive been reading as very reliable motors...

but i'd like to know more about this thermal crap...is it just in GM motors or would i benefit from doing this to the new motors as well to prolong their life...

yeah, i did this to my drivers side a couple of years ago after it was frozen, and haven't had any problems since. Hauls *** up and down. Now my passengers side is getting slow too so I'm going to go ahead and rip it out tommorow.

however long it takes to get the panel off and pull the motor. The actual modification took me about 20 minutes taking my time.

well there's other parts to fail in a motor other than the thermal thing. from what I've read it give the motor its power back, I notice my windows are slowing down, Im sure if I do this, they'll be back to when they were new..

is the thermal switch a 3rd fail safe? the express down cuts the power when the motor is at the bottom, the breaker trips if it keeps trying to go down...and the 3rd is the thermal switch if it keeps trying to go down?

naw- mine had stopped working- did the thermal bypass- and got another year out of them, and they were faster-

was worth it- now i have all the rivets drilled out allready, so should be a quick/easy swap to new motors-

Just curious - for those who had their motors fail after doing the thermal mod:
Did you guys fully clean out the contacts and relube the motors when you did the thermal mod?

Thumbs up

Gods honest truth...THIS MOD WORKS!!!!

I did the THERMAL BYPASS on my 1993 Trans Am.

My drivers side window motor would move an inch or two then stop. It would takes HOURS before the window would move again and it would only go another inch or so. I removed the window motor and soldered in a piece of speaker wire, just like many have already illustrated, and now my window works BETTER than it did when I bought the car 10 years ago and my auto-down function STILL WORKS fine. I never replaced my window motors but this motor was a NAPA replacement part that the previous owner must have replaced.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this mod BEFORE you replace your window motors. I have a new motor ready to be installed but now I can return it and use that money for some OTHER go-fast parts.

I have my passenger window to do yet which is EXTREMELY slow but at least it moves. I also bought the AUTOTRIX.net passenger window kit to help speed up the window even more.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE SPEED!!!!!
hahaha
