Delco Bose 1995

Does the DelcoBose CD player have the individual amps at each speaker like other bose systems do, or is it all driven by the head unit? and how many speakers are there supposed to be in the car?

The head unit is not amplified. The speakers have individual amps. I cant recall if my 95 had 3 or 5 speakers, the speaker locations in the back seat may have been empty. I know for sure it had them in the doors and a subwoofer in the back drivers side.

A 95 has 5 speakers, and the rear sub and sail speakers amps, are in the rear sub enclosure..

Cool, thanks. If the speakers themselves are amplified, then the signal from the head unit is in millivolts, right? Could I run my own amplifier to different speakers without using a crossover?

That is exactly what I do in my car. I run the output from the Bose headunit to a Soundstream 5 channel amp bridged down to 3 channels. I run MTX 2-way components in the doors and a sub in the trunk. It sounds pretty good!

The cd portion of my Bose head unit let go, so I went the opposite route.
I put in a Pioneer head unit with a harness from Crutchfield. It sounds
pretty good. When the speakers fail, I'll go aftermarket amp and speakers.
I have been thinking about adding a sub in back, opposite of the spare
tire.

Yeah, I just sold my 1988 camaro, and I'm missing the cool stereo.. I had a Kenwood head unit, kdcx589 or something like that.. iPod interface I ran into the center console, 4 way Pioneer amp to drive the kenwood speakers in the dash and the kenwood 6x9's in the sail panels, and a 500 watt 12" Sony sub fitted in a homemade texture painted/ported MDF enclosure in the rear cargo hatch. I'd like to maintain the stock appearance in my Z28, though.. And I didn't know if it was supposed to have 5 or 6 speakers, there's an empty hole in the rear left underneath the 5th speaker. I guess I'll buy a 5 way amp instead of leaving the individual amps at the speakers , and run 5 speakers off that.

the CD portion of my head unit

crapped out too...

so I put in a pioneer head unit w/ the schoshe (sp??) adapter to allow the Bose speakers to work.

Sounded OK, but I then replaced the speakers (4 in the main part of the car) and ran new wiring... sounds much better...

Thinking about putting in a 4 channel amp and better speakers???

Probably won't do it tho, as my daughter will be the primary driver the car soon... and I'm saving up for a C6.

I thought my 94 was like that. Amps at the speakers, but I was wrong and picked up a Sony mp3 head unit installed for $200.
