guys whats the best way to flush dexcool out and refill it without one little problem?


don't care how long and drawn out hte process is... just want the cooling system to be good.


I hear you shouldn't use tap water with it, that you should only used distilled water? or it might cause it to sludge up?

any chemical flushers or brands to use?

any brands of coolant to use?

 

When I purchased my car used with 40K miles, the coolant dipstick was coverered in brown sludge, so I took it to a radiator place that had a powerflushing machine. This thing flushed out all that junk and other deposits in the cooling system, and I brought my own "Dex-Cool Approved" Prestone for them to refill it with.

I have this done every year because about 6-7 months after this is done, there's brown sludge on my dipstick again. I'm not sure if this is a protection characteristic of Dex-Cool or a side effect.

Either way, find a place with a powerflushing machine, the whole procedure won't run you more than $75.

 

The brownish looking stuff you can find is some DexCool systems is usually the result of two things: air in the system and/or excess use of the anti-leak pellets.

 

Why don't you just use the regular stuff? I asked my mechanic about that stuff and he told me it has rusted out so many radiators that it's better to stay away...

 

Dex-cool only has problems when it's not maintained. Also, I hope your "mechanic" isn't mixing the two together or you will be the one with the cooling system problems.

 

I don't mix the two together... I just use the regular prestone stuff with a 1:1 ratio of water to antifreeze and it works well.

 

I think '94s came with the green coolant.

 

Thats what I am afraid of...


I have no real problems to not go to the Green stuff... but I would be worried to convert over, in case I didn't get all the dexcool out then I have all sorts of new problems.
