Dealership Care About !CATS ?
Dealership Care About !CATS ?
I am taking my TA to a dealership on Friday to get my AC recharged, and got to thinking: I don't have cats on my car right now. Is there any chance that the dealership might actually care and make a big deal about this? Obviously they will be able to tell by the smell, but is it something I should be worried about? I have kinda got myself paranoid about this and wanna know if it is justified.

I have worked at a GM dealership for the past 13 years in the parts department...but know enough about what goes on around here that they won't even take a second look at it...you have nothing to worry about...now if you were going for an e-test...that would be a whole different ball of wax

Thanks guys. That is what logic told me, but I was still a little nervous for whatever reason. I am putting cats back on the TA because I want it a little quieter and because I am tired of the smell, but that won't be until after this week so I just wanted to make sure. Thanks again.

Putting CATS back on ?????!!!!????
WTF ?
Are you some sort tree hugger ?
ENJOY the LOUDNESS and free-flowing extra power !
The smell ? That jest lets ya know your car has a
REAL
exhaust system, not some choked-off EnviriFornia approved POS.

Re: Dealership Care About !CATS ?
technicians are supposed to report types of things like this, but typically on vehicles that are in for waranty work only. The only other way to get yourself in trouble is if the car needed something exhaust wise or if they would need to test a cat for a possible problem. After all, it is illegal to remove or replace n operable cat on a car with under 75k miles or a certain age old. you car is well beyond the age requirements I'm sure, so don't worry about it. just to keep in mind though.... new epa regulations are requiring the technicians to report any altercation of the smog/polution/airbag equipment on the recently new cars. (again, especially waranty cars) if the technician does not report the altercations and somehow somebody finds out, the epa can and will fine the technician and his or her workplace as well. That usually means the technician will be packing his or her bags on their way out the door. If certain EPA regulations are not followed by the technician or workplace, the workplace can be shut down and the technician can get banned from this type of work for 2 years. certain states have certain rules and punishments.
Not really to scare you, but just a thought for the future. your car will be more than fine.
