Dealers and Valves (repititous issue?, sorry!)

Do you think a dealer is a trustworthy place to get the valves adjusted on a Lt1? I just need them done...correctly... and I figure they would be my best shot, and I don't feel like messing with it(nor do I know how..yet). I have grown a big mistrust for shops over the years and the horror stories I have. Thats why I ask.

I know on my car they rattle (a little) when the car is cold (mid throttle), then it goes away. But I think I hear it a little also when I really nail it(after cars is fully warmed up and oil flowing), but the engine and exhaust is too loud to really say for sure. I run fresh Mobil1 10W30.

Forgive me for I did not search...this time.

Any competent mechanic should be able to adjust the rockers on a small block Chevy. It's pretty easy to do yourself if you don't mind getting a little dirty.

I may try...maybe...I'll research it a little further.

I stay dirty! lol

EDIT: BTW does your car (LT1) rattle when cold like I mentioned?

Rockers rattle alittle because the oil need to be pumped up to the valve train.....

Check this SITE on adjusting rockers..

My engine is noisy for the first few seconds after starting. My guess is that it's the valvetrain before the lifters pump up.

Re: Dealers and Valves (repititous post, sorry)

Mine rattles on cold start up then goes away shortly after that, its not like a lifter rattle more of a deeper sounding rattle. This is what I have found doing research on engine noise...... on the LT1 when the pistons are cold they actually have a piston rattle that goes away when warm. Cause.. when the piston is cold it actually looses its round shape and becomes somewhat oval, causing a piston rattle, when engine warms up it retains its round shape and rattle is gone. Just wanted to share that, that is what I have heard.
