Daytime running light issues on a 97 any ideas why it's doing this?

Awhile back my left turn signal stopped flashing (right works fine) It did this after hitting a pothole hard. So I figured it just damaged the L/F turn signal bulb. Anyways the R/F DRL works fine, however when I put a new bulb in the L/F turn signal socket only one filament of the bulb illuminated but on the right side both illuminate fr the DRL. Even with a new bulb the left side turn signal still would not flash nor would it get bright as the right side for the DRL.

Everything seems to operate as it should (headlights automatically come on in low light conditions and right DRL turns off, all other lights on car seem to work fine)

I have also noticed the socket is brown colored in areas (possibly heat related) could my socket have an internal problem that is causing this?

I really don't want to get into splicing a new socket into my existing wires so if a new socket is needed how hard would it be to install a new socket like how it is done factory style?

I can provide you A LOT of detail about my troubleshooting techniques on this exact problem from earlier this year (spliced in new sockets, spliced the left over to the right side, traced wires, etc.). My issue boiled down to a bad DRL Module (it's a small black box located behind the radio). I picked one up at a local f-body salvage yard in PA for $20 after hours of troubleshooting and this exact problem disappeared.

DRL Modules cost a bunch new (don't remember the list price on them but I was shocked), try picking one up from a junk yard and swap it in.

Good luck,
Chris
