Question daytime running light install

looking for a little help with an install of a daytime running light module. Need a good switched power source, and possible a good spot to tap into the low beam lights. I was wondering if anyone had any idea what color wire it is by the passenger side strut tower( i spliced into my fans there, assuming lights are there too). Any help me much appreciated.

You didn't tell us which vehicle you are working on. Since you say the 96 is fully loaded, we can assume it already has DRL.

The 95 will have several switched sources at the black 10 pin connector near the PCM BUT I advise against using them. 2 of the 3 pink wires are for the injectors AND are low current fuses (7.5AMP). The third pink wire is for the ignition. That's not a good idea to tie into it but it's on the pin second from the end between the brown wire and the dark blue wire.

That brown wire on the end pin is also switched power to the fan relays. But again I caution against using it since it is power for all 3 fan relays, The O2's, the evap solenoid, the EGR solenoid and in your case, the skip shift and reverse lockout solenoids.

Although most of these items on that circuit are used intermittantly, they can easily be on at the same time and probably won't leave you with much power for your add on.

I tell you this because you are the one to ultimately decide if you want to tie into these items. If you heed our warning, you will grab power at a switched source at the fuse panel (there's one there with no fuse in it) and run a wire from there over to were you need it with an inline fuse.

Last, the low beam power(on a Z) is on a yellow wire. But from what I can make out, it is running from the lamps, across the front to the drivers side and up to the fire wall on that side of the vehicle. Your best bet is to grab it near the passenger side low beam and bring it up to the passenger side shock tower.

Hope that helps.

My 1995 Z28 has DRL wiring/markings but no relay or power. Good thing, too. Looks silly driving round with the lights on in broad daylight.

Re: daytime running light install

ya they were only available in 97, to bad mines a 96, and i need them to pass the federal inspection in canada, sooo i figure im gonna get the switch power from the fuse box ( with ann inline fuse) and tap into the low beams ( ill find it). i was also thinking about taping into all my powers from the deck ( i need to install one tommarow anyways, and run the wire to the low beams. Anyone think thats a bad idea?
