Damn t-tops

I've been trying to deal with my broken t-top for months. I can't figure out how to get the damn thing off. My drivers side comes off without any problems. My passenger side will not come off. The handle looked stripped when I took it off. My friend decided to take vice grips to it and ended up slightly stripping the metal where the handle goes. I could order a new handle and give that a shop but I don't want it to end up stripping again and being a waste of cash. I also don't want to try ripping the plastic trim off and end up breaking something and have to drive around looking at cracked or broken plastic. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get this damn thing off?

The key goes in but won't turn but it is in the unlock position.

Re: Damn t-tops

When I got my first 95 the latch for each top was pretty well seized. I forced penetrant through the little red tube everywhere I could find an opening. Slowly but surely they gave way. When off, I disassembled what I could and then sprayed lithium on whatever moved. Patience is as good as a key. Friends with vice grips should be restrained.

Re: Damn t-tops

Next time somebody uses vice grips on ANYTHING on your car mail me and I got a BIG rubber hammer I will lend ya.

Like has been stated a lot of patience and WD and ya will get it loose. If ya rip it loose ya are subject to damage the sealing strips and latching points on the car itself.
Ya might want to look/take apart your other one to see HOW it works and where to spray it with WD.

Re: Damn t-tops

lol thanks for the offer on the rubber hammer. Well first thing I'll need to do is find a new handle. I just went on ebay and they used to have t-top handles but not anymore I guess. Anyone know where I can find one?
