cutout question....
where is the best place in the exhaust to install an electric cut out? Do you want it as close as possible up on the Y-pipe where the two pipes come together, or do you want it way down on the exhaust fight before the miffler?? Im going to buy an QTP electric cut out soon and also does it come with the wiring and switch to install it completly. Also where did you guys mount your switch for the cut out? Also depending on where i install the cut out, what size diameter do i need? thanks

Re: cutout question....
I have mine under the rear seat, bring the QTP with you when you get it welded in to be sure there's room for the motor portion/correct orientation. QTP comes with everything you need for the install, believe I bought the 3". I have an A4 and had a convertible top switch and plate already, so mounted the switch right next to it.
Re: cutout question....
instal should be about $30-50 depending on the place for them to weld it in.

Re: cutout question....
We usually recomend that you install them in the I-Pipe (under the passenger side back seat) There is plenty of room there plus a drain plug to run the wire into the cabin! Also bring the unit with you when you have it welded in to give the welders a good idea of how to tuck it in as close as possible!
Thats mine installed under the passenger seat, no clearance issues on my lowered car!

Re: cutout question....
Naw, the best place for a cutout is over the rear axle just before the turn into the muffler. I had my first cutout under the passenger seats and it shook the whole car. Everything that could rattle did including the rear view mirror; I got headaches. Over the axle has been great...no rattles whatsoever and still the loud rumble you bought it for!
Re: cutout question....
In the hump under the rear passenger seat never gave me any problems in my 94, plu as stated before the drain plug makes wireing easy. had my switch installed by friends in the ashtray for that "Stealth" feeling.

It's right next to the fuel tank.
The tank has a heat shield that protects it from the muffler heat and the tail pipes are a sufficient space away...............but if an aftermarket part is put in - without a heat shield to protect the PLASTIC tank......things could go horribly wrong one unsuspecting day.

One could construct some sort of heat shield to deflect the head I suppose.

It is only a two inch extension from the existing pipe. It sits one inch behind the gas tank heat shield and about one inch away from it. Certainly, with the cutout closed it poses no problems. When open, and the vehicle moving, the heat should be cooled and diluted by the air rushing by, I would presume. The heat from an open cutout when the vehicle is at rest would be the only possible concern. Maybe a 2 x 2 inch aluminum extension on the existing heat shield should be put on for insurance. I will check with my muffler guy.
