i ran a cutout in place of the catalytic convertor on my 95z, i had the stock catback with a hooker aerochamber muffler, on the freeway they were about the same, in the city the hooker was better...the only reason i liked the cutout was b/c i drew alot of attention (no real performance gain over a good flowing exhaust setup).

and by the way 3'' catbacks arent all theyre craked up to be, the gain of a hooker muffler as opposed to the whole catback is minimal, only cars making 500+ need a full catback, b/c on a stock car the difference btw 2.75 to 3 isnt noticable, and is all in peoples head!

My car had a Magnaflow 3" catback exhaust on it when I got it.
I just put in my 3" DMH electric cutout this weekend
The cutout is welded in just before the intermediate pipe curls up over the axle, so the cutout is slightly behind the right rear seat. If you put the cutout there, be sure to put some heat sheild down to keep from catching your carpet on fire

I really like my electric cutout because I can open or close it with the flick of a button. Also, the car sounds awesome with it open, real loud and like NASCAR at upper RPM's. I could tell a seat of the pants difference with the thing open.

If I end up getting a cutout this summer I'm for sure going to get it installed just before the pipe turns to go into the muffler - making the sound and the fumes come out the rear of the car.

I believe it's called Crackhed Matt style.

newbe

just click on the red link below his message...goes to his cardomain site

oh and with the cutout on my 96, right before the axle, i had it open for months at a time, and never heated the floorboards at all?
i even ran it several times for some 200+ mile trips nonstop.

The heat shield was heeding the advice of my exhaust guy, he thought it might heat up and catch my carpet on fire. Maybe he's just a worry wart and doesn't want a lawsuit when somebody's car catches fire

yea, what that other guy said... just install it so it isnt on an angle thats upward toward the bottom of the car... better to lose an inch of clearance than bake the passenger seat.
