Custom Gauge Idea

My idea is taking out the stock gauge cluster(Speedo, tach etc.). I want to take the piece of plastic that covers the gauges and tinting it a little. Then put some digital gauges in brackets behind the tinted plastic. This was when the gauges were illuminated they would shine through the tint, and when the car was off, it would just look like a solid black panel.

Is this feasible?

Thanks

Paul

That doesn't sound like too bad of an idea. I would want to make sure all my new gauges and bulbs would be bright enough. You might want to get a spare dash piece to try it out on, or even get some of that static cling tint to test it instead of regular 'sticky' tint.

I think I will just get a spare plastic cover, tint that and try it out with one gauge, then if it works I will do the rest of the gauges, if not, ill just mount whatever gauge it was somewhere else.

I remember one of our members in the 3rd gen board used the digital gauges under smoked plastic where the ash try was. It looked awesome.

How hard would it be to throw the speedometer readings up on the windshield, like the GTP's? Virtually impossible? THAT would be pretty cool too.

The HUD display on the windshield may be easy. If you got the box that sits in the dash, it would just be a little cutting and so on to make it be in there. But to get it to read properly and have all the right stuff on there might be hard. But all it is a box that displays the info and you see the reflection in the glass. Actually a quite simple idea.

Im pretty sure that the HUD is an output from the BCM, I would think that it would be a pretty involved process.
