Crap... what happens when you mix green and orange antifreeze?

'water pump went on my car in the middle of the night, and leaked coolant everywhere...
I just picked up some cheap anti-freeze from a gas station and filled up my car using that.
Now I just realized this morning, that I filled it with green anti freeze
I know GM switched to the orange stuff, and my buddy told me if you mix the two they sludge up in the radiator. Will a flush get rid of any of it? It's only been in there a day?

Just drain it and flush completly with water, then refill with one color. I suggest green

I recommend green too after a complete flush. I've had nothing but problems with the orange clogging up my heater core in my 2000 Blazer and the 94Z has green and (twice yearly changes) the radiator looks brand new inside. Just be sure no matter which color you use to mix only with bottled distilled water, it really keeps it cleaner than using tap water.

Hmm...Buy some prestone anti-freez flush. It's a powder that you mix with water. It tells you exactly how to use and mix. I used it on the Cavie and it works good at de-gumming the system. I forget exactly, but one coolant is sylicated and one is non-sylicated. They donot mix. It forms a gel...
Anyway, check out that Prestone coolant flush additive. You mix it and throw it in your sys. Let it idle for a while and drain. Wait until your car has completely cooled before you introduce cool clean water into the system.

The only thing that happens is that the qualites of the orange coolant are now no better than the green. It does not cause gelling just to mix them. What causes gelling with the orange coolant is exposure to air.

i just changed jobs but before this i was a gm certifide tech. i worked in a large chevy, caddy, buick dealer ship. there is no problem with mixing the two antifreeze. it will turn the fluid brown and you need to flush every 30k like with the green coolant. if you go to the parts store, prestone sells all makes coolant now.

gm blazers and jimmys had a problem with there coolant systems. there was a bulletin out to flush with the powder prestone flush. it stated there may have been sand in the blocks from casting that caused the problem
hope that helps

Yep, I also used to work at a Chevy dealer. My neighbor came in for an oil change on her 95 Jimmy. I was doing my checks and found the radiator completely sludged up. The cap had about a half an inch of crap caked up on it. I ended up selling her a coolant flush that ran her about $350, after labor and parts. Don't ask aboout the price, the service manager was the one who came to that decision, I'm NOT exadurating. We saved her the crapped cap for proof.
Yes, The 95-96 Jimmys and Blazers had a big problem with the factory installed coolant. Sludge problems, flushed it and it was fine.
