I like both, and i dont think you'll lose any power going from the SS hood to that one. If it was me,I would the the SS intake and modify it to pick up air from the back of the cowl hood to make it functional...shouldnt be that hard.

The cowl hood on a carb. works great because the carb./filter is right there. But I doubt there would be any difference on an injected LT1 with the TB at the front. I'll bet you would be better off pulling the air from the stock location.

Thats an LS1 model, but the TB is still in the same place.

You won't lose any power and could make a little more. Just put an SSRA on, which breathes from the chin if you want to keep ram air. The gain could come from the hot air in the engine bay now having a way out through the cowl opening. Granted you'll never see this gain on a dyno.

I knew that! Typo. Using a cowl hood as an air outlet is not as effective as other methods, as there is high pressure at the base of the window. The air wants to go in here not out.

Interesting....I have also heard (CMIIW) that because of the extreme angle of the windshield on 4th gens, the high pressure at the base of the does not exist.....maybe a reason SS's went with a ram air setup vs cowl induction???

Obviouly it would be less then on a car with a more upright windshield. But it has NOT been eliminated. The reason your inlet for the HVAC is located here is because it's a high pressure area. Installing a cowl hood will increase the pressure in this region. Several people who have installed cowl hoods and left this area open to the engine compartment have reported gettting hot air into the car though the vents.

I have a cowl hood on my Z-28 and if it's raining, you can see the droplets on the windshield getting pulled in toward the cowl opening. Obviously there is some induction there.

Sunoco hoods look badass. Probably no power loss, but if you count the Ricer HP you would gain, I'd say that hood is good for automatic 12's in the 1/4.

Ok, so while sitting it would still allow hot air to escape since there would be equal pressure, and while driving it would pull cooler air in ,if it is high pressure, which would displace lower pressure hot air out the bottom. Either way you'll run a little cooler.
