Coolant Flushing...

I have a 97 Z28 A4 and think its time to flush the coolant. Im sure I remember seeing a Dexcool label somewhere, but it has the normal green coolant in it. When I check the fluid level through the coolant adding spout, parts of the plastic level checker looks like it is caked with mud or chocolate milk. Any advice? Thinking of having a shop flush and clean the system.

You should have the Dexcool in there - maybe someone mixed the green in or didn't completely flush the Dexcool and thats why you have mud/sludge. Be sure to flush it well and completely remove everything - then fill with Dexcool or the green stuff (factory fill is Dexcool for your car).

Green coolant is fine as long as you don't mix it with dexcool.

Thanks guys. I want to have it flushed and put the green back in so its less of a hassle to maintain.

Most guys I know do not have any problems with Dexcool - the one I know personally that did used tap water while the other's used distilled only - but you can't go wrong with the green stuff!
