Hey there are some BBK headers im looking into and they are for a 94-95 single cat and i was wondering if there is any way I can get these to work for my 96 dual cat and still be emmissions legal...?

It was tight getting the y-pipe they sent me to bolt to the headers but where the y-pipe bolts to the exhaust pipe going out the rear required some welding and new pipe. Originally, the y opened up into 2 pipes, a small one going through the second cat and a larger one that bypassed it and went to the muffler. You may want to look underneath your passenger side to see if yours is the same way because I'm not sure if that is stock or not. The car had an aftermarket muffler when I bought it. If yours is the same way you can do what I did. Just cut it all out and make it a solid piece running back to where it goes into your muffler if you aren't worried about emissions. Be warned, if your exhaust y's into your Magnaflows and only part of your emissions pass through the muffler, like Borla's do...there are different size plates that restrict the exhaust flow coming out the side that does not pass through the muffler. If you do not have one of the plates in there it sounds terrible. That is still something that I need to fix on mine, I absolutely hate the way mine sounds now.

But my magnaflows dont have that resticter thing goin. Do I need to still put a restricter plate in front of where it would connect to the muffler still?

Basically everyone is just saying it wont pass emissions and it is going to be more work then getting dual cat headers. But is there any diff. in gains?

It's not going to be anytype of gain you can feel. I don't know what the difference is horsepower wise, I was just saying the easiest way to do it that I saw, was to eliminate both cats. But like I said before, it doesn't sound very good. I am not at all happy with it.

Why do people convert to single cat then? There has to be some sort of gain?

Re: Converting Dual to Single

I didn't say that there wasn't, I said it's not anything you can feel. A guy had kinda similar question the other day. I told him getting confused on which headers to buy for the most hp, easiest to install, and best clearance is like a fat chic obsessing over drinking a diet coke or regular coke.... your only gonna see 10 to 20 h/p gain and that is minor to me. People say ohhh I got 35 rwp w/longtubes! BS It's not that big of difference. And I don't think it should be a major decision.
