Compressor leaking oil!?

There seems to be a clear/yellow tinted substance dripping off the back and front of the a/c compressor. When wiped off w/ a paper towel it appears to be a similiar color to brand new/clean engine oil, slightly yellow. It is definitly oily you can feel it between your fingers.

I dont see a way engine oil could get over there. Could it be coolant?

Probably A/C system oil, the front seal on the A/C compressor is (apparently) prone to springing a leak. Mine started doing that and had to be replaced, leaked all the refridgerant out as well as yours is most likely doing too.

Your compressor has oil in it (PAG, if I'm not mistaken) that could be leaking.

Re: Compressor leaking oil!?

well how bad does it seem? I believe you can get a pressure test to make sure that's where its coming from. possible just to be a bad seal as well. if you are really lucky maybe it will last till end of summer and you won't have to get it done until next year...trust me, I have been there with ya and it isn't fun to go without it during summer and with this heat....it sucks. and honestly...it probably won't exactly be cheap if it is a bad compressor with parts, labor, and then to recharge the system.
