I have my motor apart and would like to clean it. What have any of you had the best results with?

My next door neighbor just cleaned the inside of his engine a couple of weeks ago. He used simple green and a wire brush on the pistons and cylinders.

I highly recommend you stay away from that method.

i always used old gasoline to clean engine parts and greasy stuff. gas disolves most lubricants, obviously won't harm most seals and is readily available (gas can for the lawnmower).

probably not the safest, but if done in an open area...and not near flames

Use mineral spirits. Alot safer and works great. Also pretty cheap.

I use varsal and a brush then an air hose to dry it for most parts on the 355 I'm building right now. Actualy, just the pistons and rods as far as I can remember. Then I of course lubricated the pins.... I also used it on the water pump and balancer.

On the block itself before I painted it.. I used some brake cleaner.
