The LS1 is the aluminum block, aluminum heads, plastic intake motor that GM used from 1998 to 2002. If your car is a 96 (just looking at your screen name), you would have an LT1. Both the LS1 and LT1 were the same in the Pontiac and Chevrolet F-bodies.

Edit...

I just saw your sig. An '00 is an LS1 car.

Yes all LS1s are the same. With the exception of the ones that got the LS6 intake.

The cars are all completely identical, except for how they are skinned (body panels) . The LS1 is the same pretty much from the 'Vette to the F-bodies, but is exactly the same from Camaro to Firebird and vice-versa.

.....seems that "dumbass" really earned his name.

yea man..everything is like identical..supposedly a buddy of my'n claims to have seen a WS6/SS hybrid..he said that it was dark blue, and from the back it looked like an SS..it had the spoiler, and the SS badges on the back...he said the front of it looked just like a WS6..he said when he was coming up on it, he was saying "cool SS", he said when he passed it he wasnt sure what he was seeing..so he slowed back down and sure enough..it was an SS rear with the WS6 front..he said the liscense plate read "hybridSS"

^ ^ ....it probably had the WS6 look-a-like hood on the SS? You know, the one with the same ram-air "nostrils" as the WS6 has?

Probably. Though it wouldn't be difficult to swap the front body panels. Especially if you crashed the car. Bumper cover, hood, and fenders.

I have seen a Transmaro before, it was an early 4thgen though I think (or maybe even a thirdgen). It was in a magazine if I remember.

Dope

oh god no. they are radically different engines. GM hired two completely different r&d teams to build different engines with the exact same specifications for the exact same vehicle type. they thought it would be a very efficient use of money and man power for a vehicle they planned to cancel anyway. its a testament to the skills of these two teams becasue their individual engines are all but indistinguishable from one another.

i ran across a guy last year who wanted no part of running his boss' stock 00 ws6 but thought he could take my 01 ss. i guess i need to add t/a ls1 engine swap to the mods list
