Ceremic Coating Question

Ok, I got a question about ceremic coating...I see that when you buy headers you got a choice between ceremic or just regular. The price diffrence isn't to much, but for someone with not a lot of money can make a big difference. I went to Discount Autp Parts today and saw this high temp paint and it said something about ceremic coating in it. Why would people not just buy the uncoated headers and coat it themselves with this kinda stuff? This might be a stupid question, but please inform me.

Spend the extra dough on the ceramic coating, it helps keep in heat.

It doesnt have the same effect that ceramic coating does. All that paint would do is protect the headers from high temperatures which is irrelevant.

Yeah and actually, I sprayed my shorties on the third gen with that high temp paint, apparently it wasnt high temp enough cause alot of it got hot and flaked off within the first week.

When you buy headers already coated, it goes through a heating process. The higher quality coatings (Jet-Hot) have the headers in like a oven and heat the headers up. When the headers are at a certain temp, they apply the coating. This helps the coating bond better with the headers.

Do not paint your headers with anything.
Do not believe what's on a high temp $3.00 apray can.
They will peel, flake after 1 week.

Save your money and get them coated, either by the header manufacturer or any good aftermarket source. My last set I had professionaly coated(ceramic) and they are just fine. My prev set was painted and thay turned white and flaked after 1 week.

Your y-pipe doesn't get as hot as the headers, but if you paint it w/ the high temp spray paint it will peel off in a fewe weeks.

Re: Ceremic Coating Question

I too agree about getting the ceramic coating.
