center console armrest

Hello,

I did a search with terms that seemed relevant and found nothin. I've got the usual broken center-console armest-hinge (only the plastic inset piece on the underside of the armrest lid is broken). Are those liners available from somewhere? If not, they should be.

I welcome any thoughts (including how you might have fixed yours with items around the shop). If it matters, I've got a '94 camaro.

And apologies if this is in the wrong sub-forum. I wasn't sure where to put it that would see some traffic.

Thanks!

Re: center console armrest

Hey, thanks for the reply. Actually, I have that same pin but the issue is that: on the inside of my armrest lid, the plastic broke so there's nothing for the hinge pin to go through. The long body part of the center console (with the other set of hinge loops) is fine. So all I need is the liner that's in the underside of the armrest itself (it seems to me that part is what houses the hinge loop).

I'm poor and don't wanna buy a whole new center console (from the dash back) just to get a working hinge, if we are able to instead get the little bolt-in plastic liner inside the armrest. I think a lot of guys have issues with the hinge breaking so it seemed like there was a market for that liner (a 30 cent piece of plastic). But I'm not very conversant with 4th Gen stuff (it's my G/F's car).

Any thoughts about any of that?
THanks again for the reply!

I have a 3RD gen so I'm not sure what it looks like but couldn't you go to Home Depot and get something that would work?

Re: center console armrest

Good idea but the issue I see is that the contours present an issue. Plus I'm not sure how I'd replicate the loops for the hinge to go through. I considered small hinges (like for Music boxes, etc) but I dont think those would hold up and it'd be hard to anchor them in the craptastic plastic. I still might end up trying something goofy like that.

I have the same problem with my console. You can buy just the top piece (door) new from Eckler's Camaro for $100, which I think is a bit expensive. I have been looking for a used one, but they get sold pretty quick if someone does have a console they are looking to part with. Here is the link if you are interested...

Re: center console armrest

Gorilla glue and a hinge from Home Depot is $25 but a new top piece sounds nice.

Re: center console armrest

Your best bet is a new lid.
I had the same problem and after much research I just had a friend order it through GM with his discount.

Re: center console armrest

Look HERE for a new lid for $59. Unless you want to butcher it, all you can do is replace the whole lid.

Re: center console armrest

I had the same problem. I just used some cheap curtain hooks to fix it. Here's quick and dirty diagram of how I did it: http://www.home.earthlink.net/imagel...target=tlx_new

i pushed the needle point of the hook into the rubbery part of the console lid. Make sure you align them properly and it will be good as new.
