Carpet Soaked After Heavy Rain - Why?

Carpet Soaked After Heavy Rain - Why?
I noticed that the carpet in the rear driver side footwell was SOAKED. I noticed that the water was dripping pretty good from the seam between the rear of the driver side t-top and the plastic trim panel it meets.
Any ideas why this is leaking?
While looking around, I also noticed that the front passenger footwell is SOAKED too. What the hell is going on with my car?!?!? I have no idea where this one is coming from. Any idea? I didn't notice any leaking. Perhaps from the grommet in the firewall? Mine is in bad condition from sending other wires through it, but I have never had a problem.
Do you think I should pull the carpet or will it be fine if I just shop vac it out?

The pad is going to be soaked as well- shop vac will take a lot of it out, but likely not quite all of it.
As far as the leaks, check the firewall- there have been posts before about guys finding grommets missing and then finding rusted footwells below the carpet.
I would definitely at least pull the carpet back to see what it looks like underneath.

Re: Carpet Soaked After Heavy Rain - Why?
My 97 sometimes does this in heavy rains if I park the car downhill and the rain floods the hatch areas where the weatherstripping is. when parked uphill the rain drains out of those areas though. So that is the easiest fix just park uphill during heavy rains.

I've had this happen as well. Ended up removing the entire interior to get the carpet to dry properly.
