I am looking for a Z28 or a Trans Am/Formula and have been hearing that camaros are in the shop more often...just wanted everyones personal opinion.

 

Bought mine new in April '01 - only problem has been a window motor.

 

I was just wondering because it seems that I can find Z28's for mcuh less than than same year Trans Am. Just didn't know if it was due to this or possibly just higher avalibility of Z28's

 

Z28=Formula

SS= Trans Am (WS6)

Trans Am is more of a visual package (Like the V8 RS 98-02)

 

I'm pretty sure there wasn't ever an RS that came stock with a V8 in fourth gen cars.

Z28 = Trans Am

SS = WS6

 

Well, I almost bought a 98 Z28 m6 with the "RS" package. It has ground effects. That why I was thinking Rs with a V8 but I should have said Z28 with the RS package

 

Anyone who's telling you Camaro's are in the shop more often....

I've had the SS for 7 years now, w/o any mechanical issue.

 

Outside of appearance, the two cars are identical. Same drivetrains, same frame, same suspension, everything. There is nothing to indicate that a Camaro is more likely to break down than a Trans Am. Either car is equally susceptible to mechanical failure. I think you may be hearing someone's biased and subjective (what isn't) viewpoint due to them probably just knowing more people with Camaros than with T/A's.

Get the car you want.

 

If you leave the things alone and drive it like the "typical american" as which these cars were built for you will not have many issues. Start pushing them and modifing them then you open a can of worms.

STOCK is the only way to go....

I agree with you. I do like the way Trans Am's body styling more I am not sure which I would prefer to purchase but thank you all for your input.

 

yes camaros of those who don't know what they're doing end up in shop often. Know yr car & it's history and the don'ts of maintenance & u'll be fine for many years.

 

Well it makes since - weren't a lot more camaro's sold than trans am's??? But percentage wise no, they should be the same because they are the same car mechanically. You are just as likely to find yourself in the shop with either car. Just get the one you like most!

 

The reason here is simple. The T/As cost more from the factory, and the average T/A usually has more options than the average Z28. The fact that they cost more new, and would likely have more options will easily explain the difference in price.

As stated before, the cars are the same under the shell, they are both suceptable to the same issues.
