Camaro Plates

Hey fellas, unfortunalty I live in a state that requires front lisence plates and my 99 SS Camaro came with the ugly *** bracket on the front. Anyways I am putting the car in a car show this weekend and wanted to take it off but found that it was held on by 3 bolt/clip deals that I cannot figure out how to get off from the front and cannot access them from the back, if anyone knows how to get this thing off (while still being able to put it back on easily) please let me know! thanks!

Re: Camaro Plates

Just take it off altogether. I live in a state that requres a front plate, and have never had a problem with not having one. If they make me put it back on, I have my plate and some zip ties in my trunk.

There are a ton of cars where I work without front plates. Mostly BMW and other sports cars.

Re: Camaro Plates

You have to go through a bunch of crap to remove the 2 speed nuts up top and the 3 clips on the bottom. Most folks just pull the damm thing off. The speed nuts drop out the bottom of the valence. Or fish them out. The clips on the bottom are usually enough to hold the plastic in place. I painted mine the same color as the body and just used 3M double sided tape on the top.

Re: Camaro Plates

I just took some clippers and cut off the plastic rivets holding it in. Yanked off the whole thing and put on a billet grille.

Most people just yank it out.

Re: Camaro Plates

I agree just ditch it - not once ever has a cop said anything to me. Most of them wouldn't have the heart I believe to drill fresh holes in the plastic for a bracket - and if they would, they're going to hell. Just keep the plate in your car just in case - if they complain, just throw the plate up in the corner or your windshield.

in Connecticut you will get pulled over faster with the plate there than if you don't have a plate

Really where in CT? East Hartford/manchester/glastonbury leaves me alone with it in the corner. From this and the other thread a little while back about it being dangerous I think I'll stash it in the glove box. lol

Re: Camaro Plates

ever since i've got my car i've always wanted to throw in a different grill, but you're supposed to have both front and back plates in Wisconsin.

funny though....my dad has been driving for the last month with only the back plate on his buick. and he drives 50 miles a day.

Re: Camaro Plates

even if you do get stopped for it, it's only a fix-it ticket. At least in Cali it is, ask me how i know. lol.

Re: Camaro Plates

"Do you know why i pulled you over son?"
"No officer, i dont."
"You dont have any front license plate on."
"Ohhh, yeah, I know officer. My car got vandalized earlier this week and they kicked off the front holder, so I need to order a new one."
"Oh, alright, well, get that fixed soon. Have a good day"

That happened 2 years ago, havent been pulled over since.
