A/C Woes
I'm having some problems (still) with my a/c. We had a leaky compressor replaced and the system recharged last summer. Worked great for a while but then just randomly shuts off.
If I reset the pcm, the compressor will kick in and it will blow cool. With the compressor on the pressure is at 45. It will work ok for a while then the compressor will shut off and not work again. I scanned it earlier with freeScan and datamaster yet no codes. Controls do make a slight hiss when changing from modes (max/a/c/none). Any ideas?
thanks,
Tom

Re: A/C Woes
This is exactly what is happening to me. I am unable to have it worked on by an AC specialist at the moment so I hope someone has some advice that could help me diagnose it further.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Thanks. Did you jump the low pressure switch ( i think its called) to get it to work? I don't think I'm low on freon, as it works with a pcm reset and the pressure seems normal. I've also swapped relays and that doesn't seem to be a problem either. I'm thinking it may be a vacuum issue with the controls but I'm not sure as this is all new to me!
Re: A/C Woes
No I didn't jump the low pressure switch. The problem with me was I was unable to check the pressure because I couldn't get the compressor to turn. The pressure was always extremely high when the system was on because the compressor wasn't turning. I jumped the relay when the car was off to practice, and when I turned the car on to actually do it the compressor turned on normally for some reason. While it was turning I checked the pressure and it was pretty much at zero. I charged it up to normal range but afterwards the valve where you add the coolant was leaking. After an hour I tried it again and the compressor wouldn't turn on again. I think I keep losing pressure do to the leaking valve.
I honestly do not know much about A/C systems. I can't afford to get it professionally fixed but I'm tired of commuting in the Texas heat everyday with no A/C.
Good luck, I hope you can get it working.
