Do you daily drive your car? It is a lot of work! I removed my dash to get it all out. Billingsly racing makes a nice ac delete plate for the fire wall.

Re: A/C Removal? Easy? Effective?

I'd think the potential resale value down the road of having the A/C still in and the benefit of being able to use it yourself on those hot days would be of more benefit to you than the 50 ish pounds saved. Plus if you take it out you're need to buy a A/C delete pulley to take the place of the compressor, plus something like the block off plate mentioned for the firewall. Just seems like a pretty stupid thing to do on a car that's not a full time track car.

Mine was taken out b/f i bought the car, and i still would have paid the same with it in. It does free up valuable space under the hood, but the Z gets wicked hot and sometimes i wish it was there, but in general i almost never use air in any car i drive...i always say it robs the power.

A/C is too valuable for me remove weight. If I want to go faster then I simply must make the engine more powerful.

Based on your mods (eurotaillights and a flowmaster), I would say removing the a/c for "weight loss" would be a pretty stupid thing to do.

Re: A/C Removal? Easy? Effective?

If you remove JUST the A/C, (i.e.- the compressor and lines), it's not that hard. The A/C compressor removal itself won't shave 80lbs. off the car though: more like 15. The 80 or so pounds that you're talking about would come from removing the entire HVAC system, which means you'd also be removing the heater and windshield defroster.

Based on the fact that you live in MA and the winters there can get pretty harsh, I think you'd be better off just sticking to the A/C compressor delete.

Check, lol. It really does not seem to be the next logical step in performance mods.

Re: A/C Removal? Easy? Effective?

Its not removing the ac compressor delete. Delete is the term used for replacing the AC compressor with a "dead" pulley. It is pretty simple, just look at a haynes manual for ac removal, but instead of installing the compressor install the new pulley.

Whatever, i had a decent job at 17. Anyways, it's stupid to hack up a car in this manner when it's obvious you're not building a track queen.

Call me an *** if you so desire, I don't sugarcoat things when I see a stupid idea on these forums. I'm quite helpful in legitimate topics.
