A/C help
Re: A/C help
Its not difficult but you will want to figure out where the leak is. If you don't want to mess with it you can also try to add a can or two of stop leak in it and see if that works. I've had some success with it. The third option is to just keep adding 134a to the system as it gets low...summer is only a few months, right?
Get a pressure gauge if you do decide to fill it yourself. I think 35psi on the low side is factory buy you will want to verify that.
Good luck.

Re: A/C help
Get the profssional to add in the dye to find the leak and let them pull vacuum on the system to clean the innards out and do things right.
No offense to folks who chime in with AC advice, but seriously, advising others to keep adding juice with a system leak is dumb.
Pay a bit now or pay more later. Your call.

And why would he pay more later? More than likely he has the same leak so many of us have from the crappy o rings in the compressor. Which means you need to replace the compressor, drier, and expansion valve, vaccum the system, refill refrigerant, etc. I had this estimate and it was $1200 +. I got better things to spend 1200 bucks on. All Im doing is adding about 1/2 a can every week or so and it works like a charm. When Im finally in a house and have a garage next year I will replace all that stuff myself for 1/2 that price but I cantpay that much now. It all depends on your situation I guess.

Thanks for sharing your opinion AlfredB18, but some might call sinking money into a car that isn't worth much anymore dumb. With a name like "BeatupZ" it might be safe to assume its not in new condition anymore. This is why I stated several options.
