A/C compressor pulley size

Ok man this is weird but heres the senario. My compressor locked up sometime ago (94 z28 6 speed), and a buddy just redone a engine and had boutght a new compressor for his last year (also 94 Z28 but Auto). He bought it from auto zone, which I have good connections with and the compressor was still under warrenty. He pulled the compressor off working but I thought I would take it back and get a new one for the fun of it. So I went and exchanged it looked at the tag on the compressor old one and new one they matched. So I brought it home and I took mine off bolted it on and went to put the belt on but the belt wouldnt fit. The belt was to big. So I was like WTF! I measured the pulley of both compressors and the new one was alot smaller.

I guess what I am asking is there to type compressors on the market?? Can you change pulleys? I woulda just run a smaller belt but with the underdrives, there wasnt a belt that would fit. What do I do?

Re: A/C compressor pulley size

There were two different pulley sizes used in the early years.

Underdrives stop me from that. Im gonna try switching pulleys. Sucks I had that thing on there and everything. I believ most of us know how much a pain it is to get to that jewl. I might trade it for a 95 model compressor.
