Brutal Knock From Bellhousing?? Please Help!
Brutal Knock From Bellhousing?? Please Help!
Ok so today I was on the freeway for about 40mi and took an offramp. Hear this sound that first sounded like the exhaust was falling off/rattling so I pull over into a parking lot and try to pinpoint the issue.
She has about 75K and I've never neglected the fluids/maintenance etc.
2002 Camaro Z28 LS1 M6
She runs awesome still. Good oil pressure, def not from the valve train or bottom end of engine. The rattle/knock sounds like its coming from the bell housing. It shifts great and the clutch feels great. Also the starter seems to operate perfectly normal. The sound seems to go (mostly) away when under load but it may just be drowned out. If anyone has suggestions please let me know. I also drove 40 Mi home (I know, not too bright...) but it never seemed to get worse yet it came out of nowhere

Re: Brutal Knock From Bellhousing?? Please Help!
Have you checked the bolts in the fly wheel ? I see that you are having no problems with the starter
But I guess its possible that one of the fly wheel bolts may have backed out some ??
while you are under the car looking at the exhaust go ahead and check all the exhaust brackets making sure that there tight and the exhaust is not bouncing off of something
It is most likely a busted cat rattling if you are sure that is where the noise is coming from
But I guess its possible that one of the fly wheel bolts may have backed out some ??

Hoping its not a bent pushrod/bad lifter but again it sounds loudest from the cat. Thank you for the reply.
