Bought an LS1!

A couple of months ago, I bought a '99 Camaro SS. It's got less than 40,000 Km, T-Tops, Leather seats, SLP Loudmouth Exhaust, K&N, Hurst Shift, the regulars. Now coming from someone who does hard labor for a living, I can honestly say I don't regret buying this beast at all. The rush, I get from driving this car is incredible, and what's crazy is that I haven't even given it a good boost of juice to see what it's capable of. My friends told me that I'd get over my car real quick but it's been a couple of months now, and damn it, I still feel like a kid! By the way I'm from BC, hometown - Cloverdale Anyways, I want to say, “Hi!” to everyone on this board

Note: Hopefully in December I can replace my stock speakers with some Alpine Type-R's.
Questions: What speakers are better than Alpine? And is it worth buying 2-12" subs once I've gotten my stock speakers replaced or should I scratch the idea of Subs cause the new speakers might just do the trick *clear sound, good bass* ?

One day i will own a ls1 too. Well new speakers wiil definately help but you wont get anywere near the same bass as 2 type rs. If you want people to hear your system from far away than go for the 2 type r, but if you just want a preatty good sounding system i would go with a 10' sub on the costume enclosed box for the camaros, this way youll still have your trunk space and have a place to put your t tops and your car will bump

Re: Bought an LS1!

Congrats on your 'SS and welcome to the board. Tell your friends they're going to have to wait a while...a long while...for you to get over your car. I bought my 96 used in 98 and 6 years later....I still get a rush out of it.

Yeah, these new sport compacts are fast, but their sound just doesn't compare to the Chevy V8. I don't care how many "coffee can" mufflers they put on them, you just can't get that deep roar rumbling down the road.

There's so much you can do with these fbodies...I guess eventually you can max out on all the mods you could do...but I don't know anyone that's done that yet.

I'm thinking 2-12" type r's or kicker subs but the main problem is... where or who should I get them installed by? Beamriders, A&B Sound etc ?

PS: Luv the ride, the wheels make a big statement.

Please don't get alpine speakers. Their subs are decent but the speakers themselves are horrible. Look into Focal, MB Quart, or Boston Acoustics.

Are you for real? A buddy of mine has Alpine speakers in his truck, and they sound super good. Focal, MB Quart, Boston Acoustics, hmm I don't think I've ever heard of them What about Pioneer or Rockford?

alpine speakers work best in the stock door speaker locations for cars with monsoon.

and yes, i know the monsoon is 2ohm and the alpine is 4ohm ...

Re: Bought an LS1!

I agree with kataklysm. If you haven't heard of mb quart's, you haven't heard of speakers! They cost a bit more up front, but you won't get better speakers anywhere. Also, the "clear sound, decent bass" idea is perfect for a camaro/firebird. A couple amps to wake up your system and a decent head unit to spread the love is the way to go. Lose the subs; vibrating quarter panels are for civics, not camaros.

Re: Bought an LS1!

The only thing I would buy from Pioneer is the Premier head units and the only thing I would buy from Rockford is the HX2 subs.

The last thing I need is my car sounding like a 1981 Volvo Mb Quart's, Hmm I think Vision's sells them, I might just pop in their Langley location tomorrow. I'm guessing if I go with Mb speakers, I might as well look into the amps eh. As for a pretty good head-unit, I really don't want to replace the stock Camaro head-unit because I want my car to look some-what stock. But ah, I think I'd have to go with an Alpine head-unit, no?

Re: Bought an LS1!

Hot White: oops i've got 2 12"s in the back on my 85,i figure if they cant hear the exhaust(is is only a v-6) they may as well hear something to know i'm coming down the road.It works as a good safety precaution(everybody knows i'm coming)haha.Dont expect to find anything more than one sub in my Z28.I just find with all good speakers through the car it really complete's the sound range to have the subs.

Maximus-good job on the LS-1 man.It will take a while to get bored with the V8.I just had my Z28 on the road for a month and anything with a V8 is a blast to drive.I personally have Polk-Momo 4x6's up front,Fusion F.E.S 6x9's and 2 UltimateII's 12" subs in the back.Sounds like a good combination.Just go to your local stereo shop and ask some of the employees of a good setup for what you want.

Ls1 is what I'm all about. As for employees, errr - I don't know, I mean alot of folks just wanna sucker you into gettin' whatever just so they can make a quick buck. One thing is for sure, I ain't gonna rush it. I'm gonna take my time, and do it right. No rush.
