Blinker won't blink

I have a 2000 SS, and the left front blinker won't come on. I have changed the bulb with no luck. When I turn on the blinker, the arrow on the dash comes on solid, instead of doing the normal fast blink for a burnt out bulb. Does anyone have any suggestions before I take it to my mechanic?

Top up the blinker fluid??

.....sorry, I had to!!

Seriously though, sounds like possibly a bad ground situation. Check all the wires going to the plug for that signal light, and even trace back the ground wire(s) on the left side around the headlight and everything. I know the exact same problem was happening with my winter beater ('78 Malibu!) and it turned out to be a broken wire connector going into the light socket for one of the signal lights.

It's likely your turn signal flasher.

Here's the location on a 1995 thanks to Shoebox's site; not sure if yours is in the same place. http://shbox.com/1/flashers.jpg

Re: Blinker won't blink

I have checked the bulbs, the only one that won't light is the front left, and replacing the bulb does not help. My right blinkers still flash, does that clear the flasher unit, or do the right and left blinkers work independantly?

The light socket may be dirty or poor wire connection.

You could switch bulbs with one you know works to prove whether it's the bulb or not.

I still say it's a bad ground. That's why the indicator light is staying on solid on the dash.

Re: Blinker won't blink

I just replaced my 3457 bulb in my formula with a 3157 bulb... it physically fit in the socket, but after a couple minutes, the turn signal would no longer work, it just came on solid. So I changed back to a 3457 when I had a chance and it worked fine. Check to make sure the bulb you installed is correct for your car.

Re: Blinker won't blink

Thanks guys. A new flasher for $1.80 and I am back and blinking. The only downside is that when I asked the guy at the parts store for a flasher, he pulled up his shirt. I did not need to see that.
