the other day i was driving to a dealership to check out a car for my friend. he was driving behind me and he said that he saw a bunch of black crap or smog come out of my exhaust. my exhuast goes from my LT headers to a y pipe then back in to one pipe then its cut. (open y-pipe) i dont know if that has anything to do with it but i just wanna make sure its not anything serious. i still have a little less than 1000 miles before i need my oil changed again. i asked him if the stuff flew out when i hit the gas and took off but he said he didnt know if i did cuz he was kinda behind me.what do you guys think it is?

 

It was probably just when you hit it. Black smoke usually just means unburned gas in the exhaust, no biggie. If you drive around like that all the time your car is running extremely rich.

If it was blue smoke I'd be worried. Black smoke is usually a result of having fun in a car with a big engine.

 

Ditto on the unburnt gas. These cars have a really agressive timing setup, so Chevy tuned them to run a little rich at WOT to protect the motors.

 

hell my 3.4 blows black stuff outta the exhaust all the time. course that could be b/c i took off the cat . l8tr

 

It's just the almost $2 a gallon of gas coming out your exhaust aleast that what it's almost up to here in Fl.

 

I spent $25 to fillerup the other day.. premium is over 2 a gallon, 87 is still under though. Oh well... The best way to save gas is not drive. I just got an akm cable for my car and I haven't even been able to do any good runs with it yet...

 

thats what i was hopin......yeah gas here in tx is up to about 1.90 a gallon. it sucks. i try to lay off the gas and drive it easy but its hard as hell. thanks for the replys guys

 

ha....those were good days here. $2.42 a gallon last night....seems to go up 3 cents daily = (

 

It could also be carbon build up. If you drive like a grandma for awhile then get on it you will be burning some of the excess carbon. Nothing to worry about if it only happens once in awhile.

 

it got really bad on mother's day weekend. The Wednesday before mothers day, I paid $2.17, then on Friday, it went to $2.47. 30 cents in 3 days. wow.
