Bird headlight problems; not the usual.

I just picked up a 97 transam today. The lady i bought it from said that when she got it, the drivers side headlight would go up some times, sometimes not. She had a used motor installed to try to rid the problem. It didnt work. I bought the car still having the problem. There is no grinding what so ever, it either goes up and down flawlessly, or nothing at all. It does not go up, without coming back down when you turn the lights off. So if it goes up, it will come down, sometimes it just doesnt go up. She said some one told her it might be a wire short. Any ideas? I have installed three headlight motors in my old car, but they all grinded and did funny things, which this one doesnt. Please help me out.

My guess would be the gear. Passenger light use to grind coming down(obvious gear problem) and at the track at night when i would turn on my running lights both headlights would flip up. i replaced just the passenger gear so far and fixed both problems.

Had the same problem. I changed the gear and it did not work. the problem was from the Headlight module located just above (the driver fender) or litle bit behind the air filter box. On way to make sure that the Headlight module is the problem, try to connect the left headlight electrical connection to the right and viceversa. If the driver side is working and the other one is not then definitly the problem come from the Headlight module.

Did you replace your module? If so where did ya get it, how much did it cost? is it a unplug old, plud in new kind of thing?

Mine is now grinding when it goes down everytime. Im going to order a damn gear kit thing from brent, and try my luck with it on this car. I put them in both motors of my old car. I always had problems with the epoxy not holding up after a week or so though. One held good after a few different types i tried. The other just went to hell. Maybe that will fix it, if not ill have to try the module thing. Thats one thing I dont miss about, um...not having a bird, These damn headlights! I want crank windows to add to non movable headlights as well!

I just had the module fixed, one of the IC's legs was loose a bit.
Regarding the Epoxy not holding up, you have to scratch the surfaces well, otherwise the epoxy will not hold. for better security you can use a plastic stripe.
