Big Cam w/Stock Converter

Anyone running a big cam with their stock converter. I was wanting to do a cam swap but I didn't want to do the converter at the same time. What problems or driveability issues will I run into if any? Can I do damage to the trans or motor?

By big cam I mean CC306 or larger.

Thanks,
Dave

The normal problem with this is, the cam idle has to be fairly high. Often high enough that the torque converter is "ingaged" when the car is stopped, causing the engine to stall. This requires even high idle to over came, which then makes stopping the car difficult.
Do them together or get the converter first.

I agree 100%, I wanted to do both but wasn't sure which to do first....I decided to go with stall and trans-go "shift kit", and was amazed by the differnence. Felt like a whole new car and before any suspension work, and just nitto's I was cutting 1.75 60' times NA. Car felt like a slingshot at the track. On the street I can mash it at a 15mph roll and burn the nitto's.

Thanks for the advice. Now I gotta figure out what size converter I want. 2800 or 3200?

Re: Big Cam w/Stock Converter

I think you would regret getting anything smaller than a 3200. You might be happy with a 2800, but if you knew how much better a 3200+ felt and performed you'll wish you went with bigger.
