You don't even have to use sealer, but you can put a thin smear of RTV on both sides if you want. Be sure to use thread sealant on the mounting bolts.

#2 Gasket sealant.

All of the sealing power of RTV, none of the crack/flake.

Personally, I think duct tape would work.
