Best Quiet Exhaust

right now i have a 95 3.4l camaro with a flowmaster exhaust on it. ive gone through a few different setups. with stock cat in place, with straight pipe in place, with a larger cat in place. but none of the setups i have really liked. ( just need to get a Z28 ) anyways im going to be getting a new exhaust very soon, but was wondering which aftermarket exhaust i could get that would return it to stock (Quiet) sound? i want to keep the same look that i have now, with the dual chrome tips. any suggestions would be great thanks.

Re: Best Quiet Exhaust

If you want awesome flow but need it quiet go with a SLP/Magnaflow/UltraFlo/Borla style Muffler. Or you could also run a Dynomax Super Turbo which will out flow Stock and the Flowmaster and the sound level will be between the others I listed and stock.

A complete Dynomax Cat-Back is verycheap and you could always cut there tips and use your own.

I run a Dynamax. It's fairly quite on idle & highway, decently load under acceleration.

Re: Best Quiet Exhaust

ever heard of Raven exhaust mufflers? they're Flowmasters rival i guess you could say, they're a lot quiter, but gives you a decent sound with some throttle. i think the muffle alone is only like $90 or so. might wanna check into them.

Re: Best Quiet Exhaust

Thanks for the input so far. Ive been thinking about the magnaflow ( that is what the parts people here recomend ) and its reasonable priced, i hope. (approx. $180 )

Do you have a webpage for the Raven Exhausts. i would like to look into them a little more but cant seem to find any info.

Any more suggestions would be great, i have a couple of weeks to search for the best exhaust for the best price, before i commit to one.

Thanks again

Re: Best Quiet Exhaust

Borla makes a rear section that is perfect for a V6. It is not the adjustable cat back, it is merely the muffler and tailpipes. Better flow, better sound and stainless construction.

Re: Best Quiet Exhaust

If you want quiet stock like sound exhaust, put the stock one back on.
Not to sound like an ***, but most aftermarket exhaust are designed for performance, and with that, it comes the sound.

i dont think you are sounding like an ***. i would put a stock exhaust back on but i still want the look of the dual tips out the back. i dont really mind a little louder than stock sound, but i definetly dont want the sound of the flowmaster that i have ( personally its almost embrassing to drive around with it on ) it sounds like *** (just my oppinion).

It sounds like "A$$" because you have a 3.4L V6 under the hood. I'll agree Flowmaster doesn't sound the best on V6's, but IMO, nothing will ever sound good as compared to anything on a V8. I had a 3.8L Camaro several years ago with a Borla cat-back, stock cat, & RKSport headers and it sounded descent at idle and low revs, but was "embarassing" like you described from the mid rpms up. It's a losing battle with sound when you have less than eight cylinders under the hood. Since you really want the look of two tailpipes, I'd highly recommend a stock Z28 or SS muffler w/ tips as it doesn't sound annoying or bad like all the aftermarket systems would on your six-banger...Just a little louder than the stock muffler, but with a little better flow and the look you want.

Should do until you get a Z28. Trust me, I bet you'd love that same Flowmaster on a V8 though.

Good luck,

Mike

best thing to do is find you a Z28 or Trans-Am stock muffler and get whatever tips you want and slap it on your car. my fiance had a Flowmaster on her '93 3.4 and she just got tired of the sound after a while and wnated factory quiet again. she and i swapped mufflers...my Trans-Am stock muffler for her Flowmaster and she put Z28 tips on the stocker...looks good and gives it a little sound too...but nothing at all loud.

EDIT - sorry, the post above me already says the same thing i did. i didnt read until after i'd already posted.

Better sounding or not, neither sounds very good above 2000rpms with an aftermarket muffler/cat-back...

Like I said, a stock LT1/LS1 muffler w/ tips (you could even use the stock 2.75" I-pipe too) would work great for what you want...It would be a descent sound/tone with dual outlets...Your 3.4 actually wouldn't sound too bad when getting into the throttle some this way...Flow would also be improved too...
