I wanted to know what is the best brand gasoline to put on a SS... I usually have been putting mobil, shell, amoco , sunuco all 93 octane. but i heard some have sulfur and should try not to put it in the car... which ones do .....

 

I read in one of the car mags. about the quality ratings of fuel, and the only station by me that was listed as complying was Shell....been using their gas w/ no problems.

 

I agree with using Shell. When I got my '98 S-10 (daily driver), the EGR kept sticking and displaying an SES light. After numerous warranty returns, the dealer gave me a GM bulletin saying they were aware of the problem, and to try different brands because of additives put in by the gas companys. Shell solved the problem. I now use it in both my vehicles.
The bulletin did say the sticking should go away with miles, but I've stuck with Shell.

 

I'd been a big fan of mobil... but once we switched the '69 over to Shell, it ran infinately better. Idle was a lot smoother, etc. Now all my vehicles get shell gas.

 

Shell, Mobil, and BP Amoco are my favs...I use Shell mostly, but I'll use Mobil or BP if I am in a bind and can't get to the Shell by my house.

 

It really doesn't matter which brands I put in mine.......it all feels the same to me. Haven't had any bad experiences with anything.

It's always 93 octane though.

That's because most gas is all the same. There may be slight variations in additive packages, but there's very little difference between brands of gasoline.

 

I don't really think there's a whole lot of difference between any of the major brands of gasoline. I do however you BP most all the time, because the Exxon right across from it was bought out by a guy I don't like, so I don't give him any business.

 

no real differance other than biomarkers on low test and plus mid grade. high test is where all the proprietary mixes come into play.

 

Best octane available in the San Diego area seems to be 91.

On a stock LS1, 93 is probably overkill anyway, and can actually cost you HP.

If you have a scanner, run 89 and see if the car pulls any timing. If not, keep with that. If it does, bump up to 92. No sense in wasting money/hp if you don't have to.

 

The only ones here are 87, 89, and 93. I think Wal-Mart might have 91, but that's it.

 

ive used sunoco dont trust mobile after what i saw on news about there shady ways but didnt know about shell being that good but if it is im willing to give it a try
