Re: Best Engine for Low-End Acceleration?

He is talking about Low end grunt, which the LT1 has more of.

I cant remeber, its been a while, so someone correct me if i am wrong. The LT1 TQ peaks at 2400 rpm vs the LS1 TQ peak at 4200rpm

Yes, the LS1 is faster, simply b/c when you are racing your not at 2400 rpm, you are 4000+ rpms at all times. But for a fun car to drive or a car that "feels" fast, the LT1 is what I think he is looking for.

Re: Best Engine for Low-End Acceleration?

Unless your racing with rules to shift at 2200 RPM's this is a silly question.

It takes quite a few bolt-ons for an LT1 to "hang" with a stock or lightly modded LS1 assuming both know how to drive. Don't be fooled, LS1 cars have just as much low-end grunt as the LT1, it's just that the torque curve on LT1 cars is flat, and the LS1 torque curve keeps climbing. Makes it feel like a real turd before around 2500 RPMs.
Actually 90% of the lt1's torque is available from like 1900 rpm's.
But after 2300 its all LS1.

Re: Best Engine for Low-End Acceleration?

Maybe my car is just wierd or what not, but my torque band went from 2200 to 5750 and never fell below 300, and that was on a mustang dyno, I peakead at 316 RWTQ @ 2750 , the LS1 that was there that day got 318@ 4020. Just pick which ever you can get cheaper, after mods , its anyone's ball game.
