The BCM on the 97 and up does control the alarm. I didn't think the 96 had a BCM. If the 96 is like the 94, the alarm is controled by the keyless control module behind the passenger kick panel.

Re: BCM What does it control?

93-95 don't have a BCM
96-02 have a BCM

The alarm is integrated into the BCM.

Its the funniest thing. When its cold outside the alarm goes crazy, when you open the doors the lights flicker cant start the car, but when its warm outside, theres no problem at all. Ive had this problem off and on for many years and now i want to install an aftermarket alarm system but cant until i find out whats going on with the stock system. Another thing on the transmitter when the car sits for a long period of time, is it normal to always having to reprogramm the transmitter? ive changed batterys and i still have to reprogramm

Sounds like you might have a poor power or ground connection somewhere. I would first check the integrity of the plug and wires to the BCM, itself.

look around in the FS section you may find one there. Once I figure out how to remove mine completely plan on trying to sell it also. I'm down to only a hand full of wires to remove and its out.

Yes im going to check the wires going to the BCM, i was thinking the same you were shoebox, in the winter and the cold weather maybe the connections or wires are contracting, and during the warm weather its expanding hence not having the problem. Like i said ive been having this problem for many years, and would like to get to the bottom of it once and for all. As far as the bad ground and power you mentioned, its not that because i upgraded the wire system to that of the big 3. I will let you know what i find. When i look at the wire harness going into the BCM, if they look good could it still be a bad BCM?

Would i be able to find a new BCM from a parts store? I looked at all the wires going in to the BCM and they look fine. And theres 2 parts numbers, what does w/auo and w/o auo mean?

you will only be able to pick this up at a dealer or a junk yard. I am currently trying to figure out how to permenantly delete mine from the car. I'll sell you mine when I am done in a month or 2.

u can get a brand new bcm from www.gmpartsdirect.com
it will cost u about $160 to ur door
part number for BCM with keyless entry is 16243951
part number for BCM w/o keyless entry is 16243961
when u go to the site just click catalog>agree to terms>enter car year/make/model>click on mechanical tab>click on body electrical...and then it should bring up BCM
