Band clamp: lap-joint or butt-joint??
Band clamp: lap-joint or butt-joint??
Ok im geting my Kooks LT and the stainless steel off road y-pipe this week and i ve bought everything i need for the install:
-felpro-1406 gasket
-24 inch O2 Sensor extension(2)
-Poly motor mount(left and right)
-1" Arp stainless steel headers bolts
-Aluminized insulation tape
The only thing missing are the clamps. The headers are slip fit so i would need 2 clamps to bolts each collector to the y-pipe.Also the y-pipe is in 2 pieces so its also connected slip fit type so i would need another clamp there. Finally the y-pipe will connect to my magnaflow cat back so another one there.
So i need a minimum of 4 clamp and i will not use ****ty standard u-bolt clamps style on these beautiful headers.I will use band clamps in 3" diameter since my collector,y-pipe and cat back are that size.
Since everything is slip fit do i only need to order band clamp lap-joint style

or i will need butt-joint style too?

Thanks

Re: Band clamp: lap-joint or butt-joint??
Either will work. The butt joint will pull down and make a crease in them, but they have to be really tight. All a 1/2" drive impact will pull.
The lap joint is less hassle.

Re: Band clamp: lap-joint or butt-joint??
Thanks , i will order 4 lap-joint and maybe 2 butt-joint just in case
97WS6SCharged: When i ask the vendor about the band clamp they told me that they where not included with either the headers or the y-pipe
