Autometer Gauge Cluster
Autometer Gauge Cluster
I know there are a few guys on here that have made custom gauge cluster replacements to use Autometer and etc...
I just wanted to chare the cluster I am building. Its going into my 95 z28.
I ended up having a Trans Am cluster laying around (also from a 95) that I decided to use as a template and to modify.
I am pretty big on stuff looking pretty close to OEM, so spacing and fitment were really important to me.
I started by stripping the OEM cluster to the bare shell and ended up with this...

By using the stock bucket, it allowed me to retain all the factory deapth and mounting points. The next task was to cut out all the ribbing and etc for the OEM cluster....so i broke out the mini air saw and went to town...

...Next, I used the stock gauge overlay to make a template for my panel out of aluminum. I used 1/8 thick sheetmetal, cut it with the plasma, then I feathered out all the edges and shapes with a die-grinder.

Then I drilled the mounting holes and alignment holes so I could mount this onto the stock bucket, along with the black trim. This is setup so if I really wanted to, I could even reuse the stock cluster lens (but not sure how it would look since the Autometers have there own lens).

...Now I have to pick out which gauges I want to run, and how I am going to fit them lol. I will update soon!

Re: Autometer Gauge Cluster
Excellent work, I am planning on doing something similar over the winter. I was going to go about it the exact same way. Buy a spare cluster off ebay for like 30bucks and go to town on it. I really want to use Nexus gauges in my install but they are expensive.
Curious to know why you are using a firebird cluster to start? Do you have a 97+ dash?
