Auto to 6 speed swap??
Im new to this F body stuff. Matter of fact I own a Fox 5.0 Mustang right now. I do love the Z28's though and am about to buy a 96 V6 Camaro that is auto trans. It may work into being a project car not too far down the road. Aside from the obvious, how much of the V6 car is the same as the Z28? Brakes and suspension mainly. Also, How much trouble is involved in swapping in a 6 speed with a LT1 or LS1.
Thanks for any help!

There is not a whole lot in common from V6 to V8 in 1996. The suspension, brakes, driveshaft, rearend, trans, engine, fuel system, guages, PCM and harness, radiator etc.. are ALL different.
It's quite an expensive project to switch over a V6 car to be V8.

Re: Auto to 6 speed swap??
Ya the suspension is almost all different on a V6, just buy one of the cars on the boards here going for like 2k since it needs a rebuild and use that. Swapping trannys isn't bad from what I hear, just need to run the hydraulics and pedals and change the PCM from an auto to an M6.

Wow! Thanks for giving me the heads up on that!! I'll probably buy the V6 anyway for a second car. It's hard to admit it but Im considering selling the Stang for a Z28. Price wise I'll be in the LT1 years but definatly want a 6 speed.

Re: Auto to 6 speed swap??
On a side note. Keep in mind if your using a v6 car or getting an auto v8 in need of a rebuild doing the 6spd swap would be relatively easy since you'll be removing the engine anyway. Quite easy to get to what you need to with a pesky engine out of the engine bay. I highly recommend just shopping for what your looking for instead of going the swap route though. In this day and age it's not nearly as easy and cheap to do a swap vs 20 years ago. If all your looking for is a project, having everything that you want to start with is the cheapest and probably best way to go. No sense in planning a 6spd swap if you can just buy a car that was 6spd from the factory. Then start from there.
