ASR Stays Off

Hey Everyone,
I searched for an answer but no luck...Im driving my 2001 A4 SS, and in the middle of driving the ASR will just shut itself off. I tried resetting the PCM and cleaning the actual button that turns the ASR on and off. This happens everytime I start the car. I was gonna bring the car in for service next week. Anybody have any ideas about what this problem could be?
Any help would be appreciated.

Take Care,
jason

Re: ASR Stays Off

My friend had a problem kinda similar on his 96 trans am. I think it had to do with a bad ABS sensor in the rear or a bad connection or something along those lines. Most everytime he would drive it the asr was non functional.

I will concur with MarkyMark....ocasionaly mine will do the same thing and the ABS light comes on at the same time. so problaby has something to do with the ABS....I think it all works off the same sensors.

Re: ASR Stays Off

when my asr would auto turn off with an abs inop light, it was due to a corroded battery connection.

well i knwo i've had my battery out of the car since it started doing this but I will try cleaning it to see if it helps. it woudn't be the first electrical problem i've had with the car. I usual turn the ASR off but then if I get on it when it chirps into 2nd gear that is when the ABS light will come on. I assumed the bad connection was in the back and that jars it enough for it to come on.

I'm glad my 96 did not come with the ASR option. I see no need for it IMO. More to go wrong.

about the only time i use it is if i'm tired and it's raining. the thing I like most is if anyone ever uses my car I don't tell them about it and they cant burn my tires off or beat on the car to hard. hell it kicks your foot of when it shifts to 2nd gear even.

Re: ASR Stays Off

Thanks for the replies guys...

No, I haven't gotten my PCM tuned. Either way, Im gonna get the car serviced Tuesay to see what the heck is going on. Hopefully it wont be too expensive because I have bills for school to pay! Anyway, I'll let you know what happens.

Take Care,
Jason

Re: ASR Stays Off

Oh wow this thread was started over a year ago. IIRC it turned out to be the ABS sensor module . Was damn expensive to repair but thank God it was still under my extended warranty.
